Grapeside Pool Pops
Loved ones—
Forgive me if this missive is a tad short. I am up in Phippsburg, Maine and have only my little phone for writing. I came here to get some ocean quiet and avoid the heat of Pioneer Valley.
It’s been cold here. I’m fine with that. I wish I could stay, but I’ll be back in July.
The structure—
Writing: New prose or poetry mostly made during my beloved Northampton Literary Society (Litso) writing meet-ups each Thursday. Updates on our sweet group. Other writing things.
Teaching: Something I learned once or recently, that I would like to teach you about now. The advice you never asked for, really.
Community: Observations big and small to help increase connection amongst the unending deluge of tragic events we uncover daily.
Shall we?
Writing
Litso has two open mics in the books, finally! June 19 and July 17, both Fridays. Both at Amber Lane in Northampton and both at 6. Do join us if you can.
Then, something weird for you. From Olive’s prompt on LIES:
It wasn’t a quince in the Garden, but a Crunchwrap Supreme™ and it wasn’t Eve who sinned alone. She and Adam went at that treat in terse silence, nibbling at opposite ends like Lady and the Tramp. Which is what inspired the Disney scene. They crunched closer and closer until their fig leaves and mustaches touched.
Then, their tongues subducted for several hours while a snake descended from a quince tree and wrapped around their legs, which is what inspired snake tattoos on legs and snogging.
Finally God got concerned and elbowed his way in. Split the clouds and sent his booming voice down on golden rays of light:
“You two have to stop this, but don’t wallow; I’m sending a substitute for your chorizo-flavored love.”
And he cast down two upholstered chairs and two 20oz Baja Blasts, which they sat in happily, and drank from hungrily.
Teaching
You know, I don’t feel particularly wise this day/week. So, if you have something to teach me, this time I am all ears 😛
Community
Oh, little community of Bath, Maine. You can find an Irish Pub pretty much anywhere, and people who know each other. Happy birthday (tomorrow) to my dear dad, Jimmy. It was fun to Maine with you, Papa 🙂
See you next week,
Kay
